Appointments, a broken shell, and Dad's brilliance

Today we knocked out the last of Wei Wei's Chinese appointments. We got her visa photo, visa medical examination, and then finally applied for her passport at some sort of large police station. Our group of seven families filed into each area and drew some interested looks - but I have to admit we do look a little weird.

In fact we get lots of curious looks as we ride through town. But again, it is a load of caucasians with Chinese girls so we must look interesting:

Today, Wei Wei came out of her shell. She is now laughing and playing...with Lisa. She just sort of looks at me. I knew this would take time but Dad is getting impatient. It's not THAT bad. She lets me carry her and will even fall asleep with me holding her.

Unfortunately, I scared her this morning. I awoke with a little person crawling on me and so picked up my head and said "hi!" Well, up until then I had been a bump on the sheets and so she dived over onto Lisa while crying. After we switched on the lights she calmed down but still eyed me from the other side of Lisa.

<<**WE INTERRUPT THIS BLOG FOR BREAKING NEWS**...we've finally just had our first BM...sorry to share that but we were worried as it had been at least 48hrs...WE NOW CONTINUE THIS BLOG**>>

She finally took a whole bottle last night and then again today and so definitely is settling into things.

However, we've really been struggling with spoon feeding. Tried banana, watermelon, dragon fruit, melon...but nothing seems to work with her. She won't really even open her mouth.

Now , at lunch today she did show interest in small bits of McDonald's french fries from my finger...figures.

But tonight at dinner was the break through. We were at a nice Thai place and I was clowning around while eating and got rice on my chopsticks and look at this:

I fed her a bunch of rice and then it hit me. So, I'll pause here so you can all say it together:

Rob, DUH, your daughter is Chinese so she has seen chopsticks not spoons!

Oh well, so we had a good laugh at my expense. Given our struggle for her to mesh with me it was a lot of fun to feed her.

When Lisa excused herself and left for the restroom, Wei Wei cried after Lisa left her view. In fact she gets upset if Lisa goes around the corner too long here in our room. She has really bonded with Mama.

Good night from Guangzhou,

us
